Want to confine one device (à la VLAN) but can’t use usual methods. Tips?

I have my parents set up with an AC87U running Merlin’s excellent fw. I manage their LAN remotely by logging into to an OpenVPN server running on the router.

What with all the recent VPNFilter stuff, I’ve been on a bit of a security purge.

One of my patents devices is a monitor for a solar panel they have on the roof, installed by their electrician/engineer. This device is connected to the internet so that you can see stats online etc.

Ideally I would like this device cordoned off from...

I have done an exhaustive search on google and your asus forum posts for an explanation of this syslog entry (forgive me if I accidentally overlooked my answers).

Finding network history of MAC Address (new device alert)

I have an AC-RT5300 and had a new device alert yesterday and I allowed it to join the network. The packet analyzer in the AISecurity allowed me to analyze the source/target.

The log shows the device being added to the network and says:
Jun 13 22:34:15 roamast: eth1: add client [ac:9e:17:92:f1:28] to monitor list

I had the new device alert on but I did not have device logging turned on. I turned that on after the fact. Is there a way to get the QoS web history from that device...

How to compile 384?

Im having problems getting 384 to compile on my ubuntu64 box
any chance of someone helping me get this compiling for my rt-ac88u

atm im opening terminal

Best practice suggestions and guidelines for settings in firmware?

I finally just updated the three and a half year old firmware in my RT-N66U to the most current firmware. :)

Of course I see there are many changes to the settings that are available in this new firmware.

I realize there is a lot of 'it depends' on how to set settings, but is there a document or someplace I can go online to find general best practice suggestions and guidelines for the settings in this latest firmware?

Asus Router - Merlin v384.5 - How can I monitor OpenVPN traffic

Hello,

Got my router set up and running, been working rather beautifully (It's an Asus Router, AC5300, running Merlin Firmware version 384.5). I have a 100/40mbps WAN connection into it and utilising adaptive QOS. I am running OpenVPN, two servers - one TUN and one TAP. I am mostly interested in the TUN traffic, as I have a few friends connecting to it.

However, I want to be able to see their traffic. The traffic monitor does not appear to be recording this information that I can see. QOS...

I came across this page while searching the ASUS website for information about how to make my RT AC5300 more secure and I wanted your expert opinion about making the router's log in page https instead of http using "Let's Encrypt" free certificate. Do you think is a good idea? Any benefits from doing this?

It looks like I solved my 2.4 stability issues. I was constantly seeing client dropping from the 2.4 using main and guest SSID. Its been two days now.

I remebver seeing a thread on here about the another person's problem... but I could not located it.

Either way I'll post what changes I made. I got the ideas from my friends a Lifx.com who helped me with suggestions. I have like 60 wifi buld on-line in my office/home.

Now for the next issue....

No matter what password I give my 5G SSID,...

Desperately need help setting up ovpn on raspbian stretc

Hi!

I'm trying to setup an openvpn server for my brother on a raspberrypi 3b+ (raspbian stretch), followed this guide which I've used previously with raspbian jessie for my own home which is working perfectly.

I am unable to get it to connect with everything done and the openvpn service up and running on the pi.
The only error messages with a verb level 7 in the server logs are...

Hi, just saw the subject firmware posted in Asus download page : https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RP-AC68U/HelpDesk_BIOS/ for whoever may be interested in.

Given that this repeater previous firmware still had a few things to be fixed, it will be interesting to read in this thread how it behaves. I will post back myself in a few days after enough experience gathered.

ASUS ac66u-b1 reboot

I bought a refurbished ac66u-b1 router. If I reboot through ssh or GUI it comes back on fine.

If I say lose power or use power button to turn it off and then back on the power light is faint and looks like it’s blinking,not a consistent blinking more sporadic, and won’t come back on normally. In order to get it up fully working I have to use the reset button which causes me to lose my settings.

I’m thinking this is possibly an hardware issue but unsure

Significant update to 2.4ghz issue (at least on AC3200)

I had Amazon replace the AC3200 I recently received that was a nightmare in terms of 2.4ghz. The short story is that I was never able to connect to 2.4ghz even after nearly a day of extremely frustrating troubleshooting.

Today I opened up the replacement AC3200. I kept my initial configuration extremely simple (stock firmware) to see if I could connect to 2.4ghz at any stage of my configuration. I also started this configuration in a segregated office, away from the area where I ran into...

Bridge Mode - Cannot Access Configuration Page

I have an ADSL home internet connection (PPPoE), using a D-Link DSL-2888A modem-router (recently set to operate in bridge mode) connected to an ASUS AC5300 wireless router (ASUS-Merlin 384.5 firmware).

Since setting the D-Link modem-router to run in Bridge mode, I have been unable to access its browser firmware settings page, which I was able to previously. Does anyone know how I can regain access to this page?

So I have an ASUS RT-AC5300. I am running a Mac Mini (10.5.50.110) with Plex. I have a subscription to Torguard to route some of my traffic from the Mac Mini. I have updated to the latest firmware 384.5. When I have the VPN client running on my router all my internet traffic seems to be slow. Only traffic coming from the Mac Mini, excluding Plex is supposed to go through the VPN tunnel. Everything else is supposed to go out through my ISP. Here is what I have configured in my openvpn-event...

FYI, I am a weekender Router Enthusiast here and just love this forum. However, I was just going through a total reconfig with New FW and configured my router to "Authenticate using HTTPS" selection(not Both) under the Administration Authentication Tab but didn't "Enable web access from WAN" or create certificate as I read somewhere that I should have. Now when I try to log onto the router via web browser i get an error. Is there any way to get back in to fix this or do I have...

Can't Log Back in to Web Portal...Please help.

minor Network map reporting issue

I have the RT-AC86U running Merlin’s 384.5 FW. Got the router about 2 months ago and started fresh with Merlin's 384.4. Anyway all is good but just noticed an issue with static vs dhcp status in the Network map. I have a most devices doing dhcp while only a handful are doing static and manual assigned.

The issue is with my voip adapter. Originally I had it under Manually Assigned IP and it seem to hold the dhcp address but noticed yesterday in the Network map it obtained a new address. So...

There is now Asus RT-AC66U C1 available. Factory description sounds like it is updated B1. Or, basically the same as RT-AC68U.

Is the Asus RT-AC66U C1 supported by firmware for RT-AC68U, same as B1?

I do not see it listed as the supported model by Merlin nor mentioned specifically as C1 here.
