AiMesh Question

$

I'm looking to replace my eero gen.1 3-node system with two Asus routers, running AiMesh. I have an older RT-AC68U that was used before the eero and is in great working order. I will most likely purchase the AC86U as the main router/ap.

My question is since I'm using FiOS and require the quantum router (wifi disabled), I would have to place the AC86U in AP mode. Does AiMesh provide for this type of setup, or does it require a main router vs AP.

Thanks!!

Asus firewall IPv6 rules for webserver etc

My IPv6 connection type is Native, DHCP-PD is enabled and my server has a public IPv6 address. I need to open port 80 for my webserver but I don't know how to define the destination address on my LAN side.

The guide https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1013638/ doesn't show how to bind the local IP to my server. I guess that my server's IPv6 address can change so I can't define static address for firewall settings.

How can I open port 80 for my webserver? I'm using...

Time for a new router? Need some advice...

Hello,

Been out of the game since I bought our current Netgear WNDR3700 who knows how long ago. When we moved into our new place 3ish years ago I added a D-Link DAP1650 range extender. We have Charter Spectrum cable running into the house. WiFi is primarily used for TV streaming, phone and laptop connectivity. The house is 2 story, router is on a wall upstairs in my office, mid house. Range extender is on the bottom floor in our bedroom to provide coverage there and onto the deck. Our...

Something strange going on: why does the Netgear R7800 appear everywhere in the Charts, including latest Revision 10 when it was released back in 04 January 2016 and article updated in 29 March 2016, while a newer router like the Symantec RT2600ac released and reviewed a year later does not even make it to the latest Revision 10 chart?

Asus 5gSo, can anyone tell me what the difference between auto and N/AC mixed mode

OK, I am having issues with an iPhone connecting to an Asus RT-AC 86u

I am trying to connect to the 5 GHz band, which will only connect when the wireless mode is set to auto, as compared to N/AC mixed

But yet the laptop will connect to the 5G network, no matter what wireless modem is set to

So, can anyone tell me what the difference between auto and N/AC mixed wireless mode?

Add user-defined options (77 & 90) for WAN DHCP requests (Orange French ISP)

Hello,

The present release branch 384.5 support two WAN DHCP options : 60 and 61.

My current Internet access is provided by Orange ISP in France. This one allows me two methods of wan connexion :

An old connection type based on PPPoE protocol and an other based on dynamic IP attribution (IPoE).

At present, Orange ISP is trending to migrate all of their customer to IPoE for the new xDSL and fiber customers.

Anyway, if I want to get an IP though DHCP on my WAN connection, I need to...

Netgear R7800 and LEDE/OpenWRT

Just a word of caution if you're like me and like to play around the road back to Netgear/Voxel's firmware from LEDE/OpenWRT is significantly more involved than the road back from say DD-WRT.

If you don't know how to use, I had to knock some cobwebs off in my brain, TFTP and Recovery Console, etc., I recommend not playing with LEDE/OpenWRT.

Seems like given DD-WRT has a return to default FW path that it is possible. I found nothing as easy or similar as just loading a default FW for LEDE...

Possible Bug with Multiple Guest SSID

Hi Merlin users,

Can someone confirm the following for me. I am using an RT-AC3200 with 384.5

My setup is the RT-AC3200 is being used in AP mode.
Smart Connect Setup for the main SSID.

Then I have 3 guest networks, one for each band such as

SSID_2G
SSID_5G_1
SSID_5G_2

This would have the same passphrase as the main SSID.

This is for some stuff like the Echo which does not like Smart Connect or if I want a device to only connect to a certain band.

With this setup it works 100%. The...

RT-AC66U dual WAN, secondary shows "cold standby"

I have been using dual WAN fail over mode for a while on this router and has worked fine.
My primary ISP went down for two days this week and it would not switch, the secondary shows "cold standby" I am pretty sure it had said "hot standby" before, I switched the secondary into the WAN port and it worked fine but of course had to switch it back when the primary ISP became available again, and now the secondary still says "cold standby"
The only thing I can think of is I had done a...

Configure two clients to use different DNS pfsense?

I run pfsense in my home enviroment. I have two media streamers connected (one wired, one wifi). I use a smartDNS service to access my subscription services in one country, but on my second meadia streamer I need to access the services in my current location.

Is this possible without creating VLAN's? I want to try to keep the network as simple as possibe, as if I am away, my wife may run into issues too technical for her if things need to be tweaked ect.

Hey,

I'm having some issues with OpenVPN after I updated to 384.5 on my RT-AC68U, from version 384.4_2.

After the update my VPN client (on my phone) connected successfully to the router but could not connect to the internet, but it was working before the update. I think the problem lies in "Client will use VPN to access [ ] LAN only [x] Internet only [ ] Both" because I had it set to Internet only. Once I changed it to Both, everything seemed to work fine. I don't however wish to give...

Smallest, well-performing portable 4x4 or 3x3 AP

Lets say:
  1. you can take at most two network infrastructure devices to travel with in a small bag
  2. you are travelling in a party and have multiple 3x3 WiFi client devices, think MacBook Pros, doing highly CPU-intensive tasks
  3. you have access to only an OpenVPN Internet service so one of the devices needs to route an OpenVPN client/tunnel
  4. your WLAN needs high throughput between the client devices
  5. budget is unlimited
What would you pick?

To make it easier, you can...

Access to my files remotely via VPN - ASUS RT-AC56U?

Hello everyone.

I have broadband connection with static IP. My objective is to access my *files* from anywhere in the world in a secure manner - through VPN. FILES, not actual computer through VNC/RDP/NX (this would be nice, but it's not essential).

I have NAS drive (Zyxel NSA325 v2), which I would like to use as a main file server. I'm NOT willing to subscribe to commercial VPN servers. Beside NAS, I have modem/router from my ISP (which is set as bridge, so it should be transparent) and...

RT-AC56R Cannot flash anything!

Hey everyone!

I have an RT-AC56R that will not flash anything at all, this includes stock, merlin, and dd-wrt.

I used to have dd-wrt on this but decided to try Merlin. I quickly realized that this router will not take any flash.

From the DD-WRT web panel, it would claim success, but would always reboot back to the old dd-wrt build. I have also tried the router recovery tool and the recovery web interface, but it will always reset before the upload is complete. I have tried the oldest...

What is the Best VPN, Dual wan router for automatic failover?

Hi,
I installed a NVR(Network Video Recorder), and I want to setup VPN for that.(I want to see it remotely and securely), and of course I want to setup VPN for secure all my computer in my store too.
And sometime our Spectrum internet line is down, so I'm thinking to get one more line from ATT, and setup Dual Wan for automatic failover.

I searched, and found that RT-AC86U is the good option for VPN.
However I saw the dual WAN function of the model is not too good.

So I searched good dual...

SSH exposed commands

I have my RT-AC5300 (merlin powered) setup as my primary devices connected to my modem, I have used one of my RP-68U in a wired AP mode setup.

The 5300 provides WiFi and LAN capabilities to family devices and the 68U is used to provide WiFi to the kids, which also allows me to toggle off the WiFi without affecting the home devices. I know I could do this with the 5300 but I wanted a way to disable the WiFi independently and never miss a beat on the 5300. The Mrs works from home so uptime is...
