AC-RT88U and DNS settings?

Hello,

Just signed up to ask this question.

I have the Asus AC-RT88U and recently bought a ras pi to tryout pi-hole and Im having weird issues with the router and the DNS settings.

Under the WAN section, I set the ras pi ip address to my DNS server 1 and Google's to 2 as a fail safe. I originally left the LAN DNS section blank. Doing this I still get ad's served to me. So then I set the LAN DNS to the ras pi and everything worked fine, no more ads. I've now set the LAN DNS to blank...

hello, i’m new to this form but have a little networking experience. I recently just bought a new Tenda nova MW6 mesh system from my house. Before I was using in an Asus nighthawk X4. I recently set up the new mesh network and have issues with certain devices. I have about 10 fire TVs in my house which seem to connect fine and never drop or lose the connection. Extending Wireless

I've got an AC88U that I'm currently using as main router.
I've also got an AC87U that's not in use.
Further, I've access to an AC56R if I want.

What I'm looking to do is extend my wifi coverage (dead spot on my deck outside). The 88U is setup in the basement utility room at the far corner of the house. There's only one CAT5 line that goes out to the entertainment center in the basement which is the main Tv watching area, otherwise it's all wifi.

The 87U isn't aimesh compatible. How...

Has anyone tried the AsusWRT Merlin firmware for RT-AC5300 on the GT-AC5300 ? I want to know if it will work, or if/what gets broken, etc? Thanks in advance!

Really hope Merlin will support the GT-AC5300 in the future!

Hello,

I just bought an Asus rt-ac5300 router and have a couple of questions.

Is there a way to see packet information? Specifically, a counter that shows dropped/collisions on both lan ports and wireless? The system log is not my cup of tea. I had an old dlink (DIR-655) router that showed this information on wireless only back in the day and it was how I found out the wireless side of the router was failing.

Asus AC66U - Rebooting its self randomly

I have an Asus RT-AC66R (same as U model)

It will randomly reboot its self without warning.
The odd thing is i do have reboot schedule enabled in merlins firmware for specific times.
I also have the: Stealth Mode (disable all LEDs) turned on.

When the router reboots all the LEDs come on for a few seconds then turn off.

I have factory reset the router a few times now and reflashed merlins. currently on: 380.70
I have tried the router with and without a UPS to rule out power line...

Realtek 2.5Gbps Ethernet controller

It seems like no-one really noticed that Realtek announced a few 2.5Gbps Ethernet controllers (and a PHY) at Computex, myself included, despite going to their booth. Admittedly I was looking for something entirely different there, but it wasn't something they were highlighting either.

It looks like they'll have a few different variations.
  • RTL8125/8125AG: Supports the PCIe 2.0 interface for PC embedded applications

Why is the addn-hosts being ignored when assigning DNS server?

In dnsmasq.conf.add, the following (2) commands;

-> conf-file=/jffs/configs/domains.txt

-> addn-hosts=/jffs/configs/hostnames.txt

are being ignored, after I add this command;

-> dhcp-option=option:dns-server,8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

If I remove the dhcp-option command, the domain and host file assignments work fine.

I'd like to have both working together, is this possible?

Hello, recently i have buy a RT-AC68u E1 revision.

My ping in general is good, but when i download files (jdownloader,or bitorrent) the ping up to 200,300,or more.

The question is my setup is fiber 600MB/60MB, i have a ont, router is the ac68u, one equip direct to router, and a plc to another room with my server of downloads. These server is limited to 100MB+- for the plc conection. When this equip download at full of her bandwitch, the equip conected to router have a 500MB+- of bandwitch,...

So since Merlin has dropped support to this router and the VPNFilter malware kinda scares me, i decided to ask asusmerlin users for their opinion to what router i should migrate to. After a bit (couple of days) of research I've got two models in mind:
  • asus RT-AC 66U_B1 amazon
  • asus RT-AC 68U amazon
  • asus RT-AC1900

WRT1200AC USB File Sharing Instability. Thoughts?

Hello- This is a hard problem to describe, but here goes:

Problem Description:
- Mapped drive within Windows 7 and 10 that is mapped from the WRT1200AC's usb drive sharing option becomes unstable and/or dropps connection.

Further Details
When I have my 5 computers connected to a file shared USB 3 memory stick (64GB) via a mapped drive (z:), some machine's connections become unstable. Unstable means very very long time trying to open the maped drive (that is already open) or...

1. Merlin support

Should be possible due to Broadcom CPU

2. Ability to utilize the extra 2 cores. Just the 1.8 GHz clock speed alone is not enough.

Looks like no chance of ever having Merlin on the other new models, eg. 92U and 95U.

ÉDIT: Correction. 95U has the same CPU as the 88U

AC-68U with Merlin 380.69 slow upload

I am experiencing a strange problem, ac-68u with merlin 380.69, very fast download (up to 90Mbps) but very slow upload (only 1.2Mbps). I tried to update the firm ware to 380.70, but the newer version gives me very slow download(5Mbps) and upload(1.2Mbps). All test are done with wired connection. QoS is disabled, can't think of any changes recently.

Any help is appreciated.

Well, I've spent the entire day digging through this site and it's forum.
Wonderful resource..

Used it years ago when I picked up my N66U.
It's time to upgrade though.

I live in a 2000sf duplex in NYC. Tons of interference from every direction.
I've been running the N66U upstairs in the living room, and using an OLD WAP4400 (wired) mounted on the wall downstairs. The 4400N has been horrible... unsupported for years. Basically just good enough to get text's, emails, and WIFI calling...

NAT Acceleration prevents Wi-Fi Calling from working

Hello,

You may remember me from when I asked why my ASUS AC3100 was not working with iOS Wi-Fi Calling. I finally figured out that NAT Acceleration is what prevents it from working, but I don't want to disable it because my speeds drop from nearly 1 Gbps to 300 Mbps...

Is there a way of fixing this issue?

Cannot connect to 2.5 GHz network after Upgrading Ac3200 to Merlin 384.5

After upgrade, I can see only Eight 2.5 GHz devices online. I have many smart home devices and all on 2.4 GHz. In all I had 15 devices on 2.4 but now rest are offline.
Neither iphone nor android can connect to 2.4 GHz, I get password incorrect or authentication failure messages.

Everything works on 5 GHz bands.

Tried factory resetting router and uploaded saved configuration - but same issues.
Did not have any issues with the older firmware.

Anybody else experiencing 2.4 GHz connection...
