RT-N66U and VPNFilter - Firmware?

$

Today the RT-N66U was added to the list of routers known to be affected by the VPNFilter malware.

What are folks doing about updating firmware for the RT-N66U to deal with VPNFilter?

It appears 3.0.0.4.382_50470 with a date of May 15, 2018, is the most recent firmware but I haven't found much about it online.

Is this a stable firmware, and if not, what is the most recent stable firmware?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

QNAP updated its TS-x32XU line of SMB-level rack-mounted NASes.

Available in 4-bay, 8-bay or 12-bay models, with single or redundant power supplies, these refreshed NASes are powered by a new 64-bit Alpine AL-324 ARMv8 Cortex-A57 quad-core 1.7 GHz processor by Annapurna Labs, and DDR4 memory. TS-x32XU series models run QNAP’s QTS operating system, which hosts a variety of useful apps downloadable from QNAP or the QTS App Center.

I have an account with Cyberghost and wanted to add some of their servers to my router (GT-AC5300).

I've correctly added my OVPN file and CRT/Key info. It attempts to connect but causes an error when my Cyberghost offers an IPV6 address.

I get the error;
Code:
Ifconfig inet6 failed: external program exited with error status: 1
Which i've read up and seems to be connected to my router not set to work with IPV6. I've read online about some options i can use to disable IPV6 for the...

Is there a way to migrate static IPs from the older Merlin firmware to NG?

Howdy, long time Merlin user.

I want to migrate to the NG firmware (still stuck on 380.70) but I have about a 100 or so IPs defined in the static pool via DHCP reservations. Is there a way to migrate them since you can't do a dirty upgrade?

Upgrade TS-809 Pro

So, I swapped out the CPU for a quad core and upgraded the heat sink with a fan. Then upgraded to 4GB memory.

A few issues. The system only recognizes 3 of the 4 GB of memory. Any ideas why? I'm guessing it's a bios thing. If so, has anyone tried updating the bios?

Second, is there anyway to load 4.3.x (64 bit) software on a TS-809? Basically hack the load process so it thinks it's a different system that supports 64 bit OS?

Thanks!

Question regarding Merlin's dnsmasq.conf file

Hello there,

I was looking over the default configuration of Merlin's dnsmasq.conf file and was hoping that someone could explain several of the entries. I will post the conf:

pid-file=/var/run/dnsmasq.pid
user=nobody
bind-dynamic - Excuse my noob question here but why would you use bind-dynamic over bind-interface? As
interface=br0
interface=pptp* - what is the purpose of this interface? If we delete it from the conf will it be gone completely in terms of dnsmasq seeing it or...

Question about the Adaptive QoS Tab

Hello,

I'm using the RT-AC88U with 384.5 and everything works fine as usual. I'm having a maybe silly question though.

Since some versions ago, I noticed that the Adaptive QoS tab no longer shows the current network activity. I'm still able to see the activity by going to Traffic Analyzer but I like the Adaptive QoS meters better.

Note that I don't use Adaptive QoS but it used to work anyway before.

Is it supposed to be like that and show activity only when the Adaptive QoS is enabled...

Port forwarding to a host name rather than an IP

Is it possible to port forward to a host name?

The reason I want to use a hostname is because I run a homelab within my network and constantly bring up and tear down VMs. These VMs have the same hostname but grab a random IP from PiHole every time they come up. I wanted to see if there was a way to use these VM's hostname and don't have to go change port forwarding every time I rebuild them.

Thanks!

Need to upgrade GS108Tv2 for more ports - GSS116E or Zyxel, or?

I have currently a Netgear GS108Tv2 switch plugged into my Zyxel USG40 router an running out of ports. Even with using the ports on the Zyxel.

The next step up from 8 port is typically 16 ports. I am liking the mounting idea of the Netgear GSS116E.
I don't really have a POE need. Having at least a port or two with POE for future expansion woudl have been nice.
I am assuming the GSS116E woudl be performing equal or better than the GS108Tv2?

Also, wondering if there is any advantage in...

Exactly the topictitle. I’ve searched the web for ages but cannot find out how to do this. Do I make a setting in the NAS or do I create something like this in my RT-AC3200 Asus modem/router (yes it’s used as both, ditched Fritzbox modem)

Thx for helping guys.

So here is my setup:

1. Rogers Internet via Hitron modem, gateway turned off so just used as a modem not a router, at homerun location in basement. "Gigabit" claimed speeds.

2. Single r7000 hooked up (via WAN) to the Hitron noted above. Running xVortex with an OpenVPN server that I use so I can connect my phone and view my IP Cameras as I don't want them port forwarded. No changes to stock Asus firmware in the Xvortex. Wifi radios turned off. Have a TrendNet gigabit switch connected...

I just bought a RT-AC86U and made it my main router. I made my old RT-AC68U a AiMesh node.

I noticed that the 86U has a feature called Smart Connect under Wireless. It is defaulted to OFF Is this something I would want to turn on? Is it compatible with AiMesh?

Thanks

Hi,

I've installed entware-ng in my second USB (sdb1), and I was able to use it. I installed/used pyLoad and other app w/o problems. But when I did the first router reboot after the installation I noticed that the installed services do not start up. If I execute, for instance the follow code:

/opt/etc/init.d/rc.unslung start

I get a error message:

rc.unslung: not found

I have two USB hard disk attached to the router: sda1,...

It seems reasonable to think that you should be able to use the "tag" value within an "if" statement.

The "dnsmasq.conf.add" file below does not work, any ideas on what I am doing wrong??

As security concerns, cyberattack sophistication and the enormous and increasing attack surface of the Internet of Things (IoT) devices ramps up, has SmallNetBuilder considered adding a "Secure By Default" or some other very clear indication that a newly reviewed networking infrastructure device has an externally secure and securable WAN interface?

It does not have to include a full suite of security tests. In fact, that may be counter productive when both the main concern and the most...

Hi,

I'm posting this here specially on Merlin sub-forum because the GT is not supported by Merlin so you're losing all the great Merlin firmware features already on the GT and only him knows whether if it will be supported or not.

But i'm in a situation where I can get the GT for a very good bargain price as a replacement for my AC5300.

Yes, i'll be losing Merlin Firmware for now and WISHING that someday he will support it.

But who upgraded, do you regret it? are there any big flaws in...
