QNAP TS-231P vs QNAP TS-231P2

Hello there,

I've kind of set my mind on this model (QNAP TS-231P) mostly because of the good performance and features for the given price (currently around 145€ in Germany). But I've also noticed that there is an updated version of this NAS in the form of the QNAP TS-231P2.

I know it wasn't yet reviewed around here, but...

Can somebody tell me if the better processor and more RAM (in the 4GB version) would bring serious real life performance improvements? I am thinking that the random...

Merlin FW 382.1_2 QOS Issue.

So I noticed that with this new FW on the Traditional QOS you have to put down your down load speed in the upload box and vice versa? Did not have to do this in the previous build of Merlin's FW.

I have spectrum 300 down and 20 up. With out QOS I get 352 down and 23 up. When I enable QOS I in 85% of both up and down load speeds.

Find it odd that I have to do this on this new FW?

Anyone else have this issue, I did the clean install that you guys have always recommended to do too.

Hi everyone,

I want to use ASUS RT-AC68U router (actually it is T-Mobile's AC1900) with the WiFi booster. The booster requires the input power be no greater than 100mW. How do I make sure that Tx of the router does not exceed 100mW so I don't burn the booster? Also, which antenna port (left, middle or right) is better to use for the booster, if that matters?

Which firmware should I flash the router with? Should I use Merlin's 374.43_2? Is there a way to set the TX power to 100mW with the...

Hello

I have an Asus router with the asuswrt merlin software 380.68_4 .
My question is which Wan packet overhead should i use for an VDSL2 Connection with 85/15 and also vectoring with PPPoE.

MTU is 1492.

Should i use ATM??

I only play cs go so i dont need a lot of download speed or upload i just need stable internet and low ping and fast connection. So what are the best settings to geht the best performance?

I heard i should use Bandwidth Limiter with fq_codel ? and also litmited...

DNSCRYPT Script Question

Hello,

I have a quick question... I'm using the script and everything is working fine. But I will like to know if its possible to force some of my local IP's to use the 2nd DNS that I choose during the DNSCrypt setup script. For exemple all my IP's will use the OpenDNS regular and my kids computer will use the OPENDNS Family ....

I'M sure its probaly easy to do but i just dont know where to start

Hi guys,
I currently got the Dlink 6850U from my ISP (100mb download speed plan) and I want to change it as I feel like I overload it and sometimes it crashes because of that (Around 12 WiFi devices connected, including one gaming laptop and one gaming PC connected with cable), so I am going to use the router from my ISP as a bridge to the new router that I will buy soon. I came across three models that fit my budget.

For the last 5 months I've been trying to isolate a problem with my WSUS server where updates remain in a "Downloading" State forever. After many rebuilds and some great support from Spiceworks members we found that it's an error with downloads failing part way through.

Internet only works when routed through VPN

I have a strange issue affecting my Asus RT-AC68U running 380.68_4. I cannot connect to the internet with any devices (whether it's wired or wireless). They will ONLY connect to the internet properly (can browse) if the I route that device's traffic through the OpenVPN Client tunnel on the router.
Otherwise, I cannot browse the internet with the browser with any other devices not routed through the router's VPN connection.
I tried tracert and ping on my desktop (not routed through VPN) and...

i have the Asus rt n66u running merlin Firmware: 380.66_6. I know I need to update the firmware.

Often times when I soft reboot the router from settings page, it will reboot and all lights will come back on but I cannot connect to its wifi (cannot see SSID) and connecting physically with Ethernet does not work- no internet connection.

Not really sure where to start but here goes.

Looking to upgrade an existing wired network that will be used by 15 to 20 clients. The majority of traffic will be video and I would like to future proof it as much as possible.

The current network is as follows:

QNAP TS 431 (16TB over 4 disks JBOD)
BT router with 1GBe
3 TPlink switches (cant remember the model but cost 20 - 30 quid)
various ad hoc ethernet cabling (cat 5/cat 6)
Various smart TV's but mostly Samsung ones

Hey, I'm sure this has come up, but searching through forums is my definition of the 7th layer of Hell. Is the Merlin custom firmware available for the GT-AC5300. Can i just install the RT version? It should be coming in the mail in the next few days, and I've read the existing firmware has a lot of bugs.. I have used Merlin in the past, and i really like it.. I'm hoping that it will be compatable with my new router.

Hi,

I have dual wan configuration with load balancing. It screws the internet connection normally, but I use it with routing table. My home setup was
x.x.x.2 - x.x.x.63 addresses were reserved to fixed IP devices
x.x.x.64 - x.x.x.127 to dhcp
Even addresses are routed to wan1 and odd to wan2. I had exactly 128 entries in routing table.
This has been working at least in 380.x, but I noticed today (382.x) that all addresses were routed to wan1. I tried to fix it without success. Dropped...

I have an ASUS RT-N66U router with the latest Merlin firmware. The router streams HD and 4K HDR video from YouTube no buffering to a Sony Android TV via a Tplink powerline 100MB device.
I have a Western digital NAS Box 8TB connected via wired LAN across the TPlink and also a USB 3.0 HDD into the router. On the Sony TV I use VLC to play media from either devices. I'd like to know what can cause this:
My notebook is connected to LAN on wireless. This connection is stable, the speed of it is about 5-800Mbps.
I have a tinyproxy (no caching!) on a local server, which is connected on Ethernet to the router.

When I start a large download on the notebook without proxy, from a server which is in my country, the speed of the download reaches the max. speed of my WAN connection (it is 100Mbps).
But ... if I try the same download from an Australian server,...
