Router for small apartment and one person?

Hey. I've been researching for a few days, but still haven't settled on a wireless router for my apartment. I don't game. I'll stream TV and movies over Netflix or Apple TV sometimes. I video chat sometimes. Other than that, it's pretty basic use. I have a computer, phone, tablet, and TV. I'll be on comcast/xfinity, if that matters.

I'd like to get a good, reliable router, but don't see the need to spend a bunch of money on one that's more powerful than I need. I'm thinking $50-100, but on...

I'm seeing Exploit asuswrt 3.0.0.4.376_1071 LAN Backdoor Command Execution (CVE-2014-0583) in my AI Protection log. Does this mean that one of the systems on my LAN is compromised? When I read about this vulnerability, it shows that its a LAN based attack. I have been running Asuswrt-Merlin 384.4_2 on my RT-AC3200

Safety of a second hand asus router

I recently purchased a second hand RT-AC3200 router for a bargain price off ebay (well under half of a new one). After purchasing I instantly started to consider how safe it is running a router when I don't know its history or that of the seller. I've connected it to a raspberry pi that is isolated, flashed the latest merlin and have reinitialised to make sure its all wiped. All seems to be running well. Should that be safe? Not sure if I'm being over paranoid?

Hey guys,

First post here (done plenty of reading -- hopefully enough). Around 2 weeks ago I replaced my older RT-AC1900/AC68U router with a new AC2900/RT-AC86U router and immediately flashed the latest stock firmware followed by Merlin's latest (384.4_2). The behavior I encountered was rather bizarre: after some arbitrary amount of time, the 2.4 GHz radio would stop broadcasting, and all clients would disconnect. Occasionally it would come back, but thereafter, no intranetwork...

Any known issues regarding AC2900/RT-AC86U 2.4 GHz radio malfunction?

RT-AC5300 interface not loading

Bought the RT-AC5300 about a fortnight ago and flashed to 380.70 without any issues.
Needed to jump back into it to check the VPN but the interface either never loads or is half loaded. I get the login screen just fine, but after that is when it stops. Everything from it still appears to work just fine (internet, wifi, etc).
Tried to from different pc's, browsers, my phone, power cycled it, as well as leaving it unplugged for a few minutes, but still no luck.
Any suggestions?...

My 2900/RT-AC86u with Version 3.0.0.4.384.20468 will report every 30/60 sec

This occured when i added a openvpn profile from my vpn provider. When i delete profiles or reset the router it will come back. When i downgrade to Version 3.0.0.4.384.20467 it will not show.

I have no mesh setup.

Any thoughts?

I helped a friend install and configure AC86U running 384.4 Asuswrt-Merlin. I setup their Wi-Fi to use the Smart Connect feature. On his property, he also has several Ubiguiti Access Points. The Access Points and the AC86U Wi-Fi have the same SSID, but different channels. This was done so as he roamed around the property, his devices would detect the Wi-Fi with the strongest signal and automatically connect to it. He device is set to auto connect to the Wi-Fi. Hi,
I have an RT-AC56U with Merlin 384.4_2 now. I have chrooted debian where I install pretty much everything I want including transmission-daemon.
Everything worked pretty well for me for years with this setup until I installed the latest Merlin - probably cause I didn't changed anything else.
Issues tarted when I noticed the torrents won't download and log saying "Scrape error: Could not connect to tracker". Also noticed the error "transmission-daemon[2961]: UDP Failed to set receive...

Odd blocking issue on outgoing VPN

I am experiencing a very odd issue. When using my company laptop, I have to connect to them using Cisco AnyConnect VPN. Connecting is no problem, but i cant access some of the resources. Some work, and others dont. I moved the laptop and plugged directly into my ATT gateway, bypassing my Asus AC86U router and everything works perfectly. I can access everything. I was experiencing the same issues on my AC87U before upgrading. Router confiig was created new when I installed the 86U....

Best mesh system under 500€

Hi,
I need to cover 3 floor house(324 square meters) + garden with wifi. Main router must be on top floor. Wired backhoul is not possible, unless i buy powerline as well.
I'm currenty deciding between:
2x Asus AC86U
or
Netgerar Orbi KB50
or
Netgear Orbi KB43

Whitch one is the best option? Or is there something better under 500€?

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I tried searching for my solution online and found lots of videos on how to set my router QOS and such, but I don't think it has answered my questions entirely and this forum looked very knowledgeable. I have an ASUS 1900 that I am using at my events to broadcast Wifi for my guests. The down speed is 50 MBPS, and I have around 50-60 guests that connect to the router. Here is what I want to do, please let me know if it's feasible and how I can do this....

I've had this drive for a few months now but never hooked it up to my router until now after upgrading from NT66U to my new AC86U. It's formatted in NTFS and plugged into the USB 3 slot of course and I have USB Application open and "Enable Share" is on, Samba Protocol is SMBv1+SMBv2 but unsure of the rest of the settings, and only want to use the drive on the local network only, any help is appreciated.

Hello! i've got this router yesterday and finally got it "perfectly" configured. I've got a 400 Mbps symmetric net in my house, but i can't get the full speed through wlan. I'm getting about 320-330 Mbps of download, but if i transfer something from my computer connected over ethernet to my phone, i can see speeds over 500 Mbps.

What could it be? CPU isn't near to 100%

Hi,
I have a brand new ac88u that i installed asus merlin and setup in repeater mode with a brand new config and I'm seeing this over and over in my logs. Anyone else seen this? There is nothing directly attached to any of the ethernet ports and there are zero wireless clients to cause this error.

RT-AC3200 JFFS not formatting on reboot

As recommended, been trying to format the JFFS partition on my RT-AC3200 without much look. I SSH'd in and created a new file on the partition to check it was removed. Then have ticked the format JFFS on reboot option. Rebooted twice, ssh'd back in and the file is still there in the /JFFS directory?

On the first boot, the JJFS directory is empty. Second boot, its got the file back? Seems a bit odd.

Am I doing something wrong?

Howdy, all! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I just purchased a RT-AC3100 from Best Buy (still in box) and am wanting to install the Merlin firmware. When I look on the download site (SourceForge), it appears the most recent version is RT-AC3100_380.70_0, released 2018-04-08, with a file size of 35.4 MB. I was hoping for confirmation that this is, indeed, the most current version. The prior version appears to be RT-AC3100_384.4_2, released 2018-03-24, with a file size of 39.4 MB.

Firmware Version 384.4_2 slows AC-87U router speeds

I just moved from 380 to 384 firmware on my AC-87U about a month ago and what I have noticed is it seems to really slow speeds down now. I normally use VPN client, but noticed I never get above 20 meg on a 120 meg connection. Not even when I pass through and don't use the VPN. And, not even when I disable VPN all together and just use as a router. If I plug my computer into the modem directly I get 130M down and 8M up as expected. Now I know the AC-87U isn't that slow, and I remember...
