What's going on with the RT-AC88U? Asus has not updated the firmware since 9/23/2019. Are they getting ready to ditch this model? Even the AC1750-B1 just got a March update.

Question regarding the VPN Server function

I have not yet used the VPN server built into the firmware, as I'm currently experimenting with another project that enables me to remotely access my network, via Wireguard protocol.

For those that use the inbuilt VPN server, does this work simultaneously with a VPN client running also?

If so, when connecting to your network from outside, is your traffic routed through that VPN client or does it go straight to WAN?

RT-AC86U - opkg is missing?

Hi forum,

I have an Asus RT-AC86U running Merlin 384.15.

I wanted to know if DNS over TLS was working, so I tried to install tcpdump.

That's what I get when I type opkg

Am I missing something obvious here? I've done a quick search and opkg seems to be the command to be used.

Asus warranty question

Hi, planning to get the 86U new from ebay as is cheaper. As I have been reading here this model tends to burn up and die, if that happens how does Asus honors warranty ? Do i need proof of purchase or what is needed ? Buyer does not have any paper just the new sealed box with the router. Will Asus warranty if this thing dies ?

Hi all,

have been hunting around for an answer, and think I understand that it’s probably possible, but thought I would check...

I’m with sky, 80/20, and actually get that. I have the sky router with its Wi-Fi off, connected into a BT Whole Home Mesh, big brick walls, only way I can get decent signal. And it works.

the problem I have, is that when a PC is downloading a game or streaming video, it uses the full 80mb, leaving every other device struggling.

I know that QOS doesn’t work...

384.15 AC86U 5Ghz Dropping/Disconnecting

Hi, is anybody else experiencing random dropping of their wifi on 384.15 AC86U? I was on 384.13.0 before and had no issues until I updated last night.

Laptops and phones would have to disconnect and reconnect, or would disconnect on their own. I haven't really tested 2.4ghz since I mainly use 5ghz. Rebooting the router fixed it temporarily last night, and twice today.

I saw a ton of auth and deauth messages in the syslog, but I did find a thread saying that was normal in the later...

Asus DDNS Down?

Using Merlin 384.15 on RT-AC68U and I can't access the router via the Asus DDNS service, but can via router IP address.

My IP address provided by my ISP hasn't changed.

I have rebooted router - which didn't fix the issue.

I have also reapplied the DDNS setting in the router admin pages - which also didn't fix the issue.

This is in system log from earlier today...

RT-AX92u impressions?

The ax92u can be found for $300 refurbed for a pair now, and I want to get people's impressions of it.

My main question:

I realize that only the mesh wireless backhaul is wifi6, and that's ok for me since I have no wifi6 devices. In this config do wired devices connected to the node take advantage of the full wifi6 backhaul bandwidth? Meaning, will I get full Gigabit (or close to it- even a consistent 867 the unit has is better than what I can do now over wireless) on the node from my...

IPv6 Address Question

Hello SNB!
I'm aware that it's possible for devices to request/have multiple IPv6 addresses, but my lists are getting what I would consider to be excessive?

Is this normal operation?

Also, what is the advantage/purpose of "Release prefix on exit" under IPv6?
Would this help to minimize the dozens of IPv6 addresses being assigned?

Merlin + Transmission + VPN Port Forwarding Instructions?

Based on some searching it looks like if I want to route only torrent traffic over VPN my best bet will be to install Transmission on the router, associate it with an additional IP address and route that IP address over VPN. Also in order to get the best torrent experience I'll be using a service that allows port forwarding (Torguard in my case). I just upgraded from DOCSIS 3.0 to 3.1 or from about 200 Mbps to paying for 1 Gbps from ISP. Initially my speed only jumped about 100 Mbps after replacing my old DOCSIS 3.0 ARRIS modem with a new Netgear CM1000. Testing alone on the modem showed I was getting close to the 1 Gb. When I conncted my ASUS RT-AC66U_B1 router it slowed down to about 350 max on all network nodes. I have an AC68U and I am trying to share a Canon MF3240 multi function printer/scanner over the network. I have confirmed that both the printing and scanning functionalities work on my laptop when the FM3240 is connected to my laptop via USB. I am using win-10 (64bit).

AX88U Wi-fi Question/Issue

Just got an AX88u to setup at my new place. Install to latest merlin plus scripts seems to have gone well. My question is on the Wi-Fi connection speed. While my laptop's card is a Killer 1550 (Intel 9260) with no AX, I have connected to another 160 MHZ router (a netgear R7800) at 1.7 gbits. Here I'm only seeing the usual 866 Mbps. Enabled what I think are the correct settings, but no-go. Is there anything I'm missing to get that connection speed?

Errors after installing YazFi

If I try to install YazFi via amtm, a couple of errors occur during the installation. If I then click on the new YazFi tab in the GUI, that also returns an error. The router is an RT-AX88U running the latest Merlin release.

Hey,
I am considering these routers
- Asus RT-AX92U
-Netgear Nighthawk X10 Wireless

but both is great routers.
One is new another is used but great condition.

I am gaming on wired network and watch movi from another computer have in my private network.

asus rt92u have an vpn client to use with openvpn.
Netgear Nigthhawk has no with stock firmware but install voxel firmware can install an addon kamoj v5.
And which one would you recommend in here great forum.
Are from sweden but love to...

WAN IP shows router assigned IP

I just noticed that on my RT86U 384.15. On the main web page where it show WAN IP its 192.168.x.x.
It was a long time but I do recall it was showing actual WAN IP - external IP. It baffles me what is causing it.
I tried disable DDNS and Unbound with no effect. Is anyone else experiencing that ?
