1) Use the "computer" icon in the upper right corner of the GUI to disconnect the Internet and the GUI will freeze.
I found this Web GUI issue before, but I didn't find a way for everyone to reproduce this issue. now, I found the way.

Longest range router?

We would like to try and get 500ft. strictly outside with no obstructions.

I usually use Asus routers with Merlin software, not sure if one of the newer routers would make sense like an RT-AX58U.

would just hope to make 2.4GHz connection.

I have no idea if this is even worth trying.

I just picked up an RT-AX88U to use as my router in my brand-new FiOS setup (I really had issues with their G3100 router).

I've been having some minor challenges with it that I'm trying to understand.

Can I Isolate IOT devices on a guest network but...?

Is there a way to isolate my IOT device (i.e. google home, chromecast, nest cams, etc.) to a guest network but still be able to cast/access to them from my main network?

what's the best solution?

Put everything on a guest network??? I don't want to have to be switching networks to access hard wired devices like SONOS or Printers etc.

Current Network:
Router - Asus RT-AC88U
AI-Mesh Node - Blue Cave
AI-Mesh Node - RT-AC68U

ASUS router issues

I have a couple of year old ASUS router running Merlin.

About 2 months ago I started having issues with one LAN computer would loose network access. The computer, windows 8.1 would still show connected, however no internet or LAN access was working. I would have to restart to fix the problem. Just to try I moved the connection from Port 1 to Port 4 and it seems to have fixed it.

Two days ago a DVR security camera system on port 2 started dropping connections.

Am I wrong in thinking the...

RTAC86U How to block port 445

I read today about a Win 10 bug which may lead to an exploit eventually. One of the fixes was to block port 445 on the router. I had a look and I couldn't work out how to block a port on my router. Can someone more knowledgeable advise me.

My router RT-AC86U is running standard ASUS firmware at the latest level I can find at 3.0.0.384_81352

Hello Merlin,

Got a question for you. I just purchased a new ac3200 as amazon said it supported Mesh.. well I got it and no mesh support. I did see the snb post that the router will never get it. My question to you is , do you have firmware that enables the mesh mode?

Lost power to my NAS - stupid!!

I have an UPS that works fine...... But I managed to pull the plug out from the backside of the NAS when rearranging some cables...

Took a lot of hours until the NAS was up and running again. Fortunately it could be restored without having to resort to backups.

Is there any good way to secure that this doesn't happen again?

A simple way to avoid this would be to glue the conenctor in place using hot glue....... Does anyone have a better solution?

GT-AC5300 Killing Internet Randomly during a Upload

This is a weird one. Don't have this issue with any router or directly plugged into the modem. Running latest firmware (not beta)

At random times when starting an upload internet dies... But upload still goes on. I understand what bufferbloat but that is NOT the issue. I can max my 11/12mbps upload and ping is only 30-35ms while uploading. And usually 15-20ms when not uploading.

But say start an upload through Facebook, YouTube or FTP and it'll just kill the connection, cancel the upload,...

Looking to replace your 7 year old 214 play.

Hi,

My 214 play with WD red drives is 7 years old now. Yep m looking to replace it with another Synology as I have 10 camera licences invested into it. It’s becoming a little slow and requires rebooting periodically.

I mainly use it for surveillance, photos, docs and the odd movie that’s stored on there.

Shall I try swapping out the HDD’s with SSD’s?

What model would be a decent upgrade?

ASUS RT-AC3200 running Merlin's 384.13_4 vpnclient page shows incorrect menu.

Hi Guys,

Has anyone come across this issue ever. My vpn client page shows "Previous" and "Next" instead of "yes" and "no". See attached. Any ideas what could this be? Rebooting doesn't help.

DDNS

Right now I'm facing some issues regarding DDNS service on router.
Attached is my current configuration.

The problem is - my wan IP address changed very often (most of times during night), and the DDNS update doesn't start automatically. I have to go and force the update - which isn't the purpose of a DDNS service.
I have set to check it every 30 minutes (minimum allowed) but it simply doesn't update. I saw the logs to check if any error ocurred, but no it simply doesn't trigger a check nor...

How to use expanded iptables on Asus RT-AC1200G+

hello,
I'm using Asus RT-AC1200G+ with newest firmware version 3.0.0.4.382_51610.
Since I cannot use Merlin on my router I'm trying to figure out is there a way to extend itables capabilities some other way.

Current version of iptables is v1.4.12.2
As far as I could read on the net TEE extension should be available from v.1.4.8. so technically I would be able to use TEE but that is not the case.

I use both RT-AC1200 and RT-AC1200g+ on access point mode, and a separate router. The g+ used to be the one mostly used, but has been acting up for several months (wifi drops, refusing to connect). Never having to time to property troubleshoot it got away with the ocasional restart, until I decided to exchange one by the other.
Must to my surprise the RT-AC1200 seems rock solid, and shows very little cpu consumption and variation (although I do miss the gigabit part).

Re. the following variables:
  • dhcp_staticlist (MAC to IP address mappings for static DHCP reservations)
  • dhcp_hostnames (IP to hostname mappings for static DHCP reservations, if specified)
  • custom_clientlist (custom aliases/labels given to clients within the GUI, including chances to their icon)
Historically these were all NVRAM variables. For new routers' firmware there seems to be a move to JFFS (which makes sense as I for one have filled up the NVRAM on an older...

Hi All..
Today i have upgraded My Router to Merlin 384.15 and as soon i enable samba server the cpu is gong crazy..

I have tried all 3 modes.. and also made sure no clients trying to connect... Also this happens with or without connected hard drive..

for now i have flashed the router with version 384.13 and all is working fine..

Are there other people having the same issue.. if yes maybe we can try to solve this..
