Any built-in workaround for removal of Loopback routing?

$

I've just upgraded to the latest version of the AC68U firmware which prevents loopback routing. This is a big deal for me since it breaks my ability to sync my phone files while both at home AND away.

Is there anything built-in that can replace that capability? Maybe a tiny DNS shim (like a hosts file for a dns entry) or something?

TIA!

Open ports on open client vpnI

I am running open client vpn using TorGuard on a new rt Ac86u router with 384.11-2. I ran nmap online port scan
and it shows tcp 22,80 and 443 as open.

I spoke to TorGuard support and they said “
Yes those are forwarded on vpn server for connection to vpn, it is not forwarded to you.”

I just want to check with the experts to see if this is normal and true
Thanks

SOLVED: Found my issue. The "Enable Port Forwarding" option had not been enabled, after I full reset the config. Oops.

AC86U Wan Port only 100 Mbps / WAN DHCP Does Not Function Correctly

Two issues I could use yalls help figuring out.

#1) WAN port only negotiates 100 mbps. If I move the cable modem directly to the PC, I get 1gbps. If I move the modem to a LAN port on the router, I get 1gbps. Put it back on the WAN port, 100mbps. Any suggestions? AC86U on 384.11_2, modem is an Arris SBG6700. I've also tried 3 different known good cables.

#2) I continue to get the "Your ISP's DHCP does not function correctly" disconnects. Any suggestions? Tried setting wan DHCP to both...

how many clients can my network serve?

Hello,
I want to buy a mesh wifi system for my home.
my intended purpose is having 4-5 clients (TV/streamers/PC) which will stream 4K content occasionally.
In addition, I would like to put some home security cameras on the network as well, still don't know if 720p/1080p/4K in resolution.
What is the math I need to do to theoretically verify that my desired wifi equipment can withstand all this traffic?

Thank you,

Netflix blocked when not using VPN's DNS

Hello all,

Today I found something interesting, but first a bit of a backstory/explanation;

I set up several openvpn clients (with NordVPN) on my AC86U router running Merlin firmware and Diversion ad blocking so I could watch Netflix on my smart tv. I don't use the DNS pushed by the VPN (I chose disabled on Accept DNS configuration) so I could benefit from Diversion ad blocking.

Constantly I had to change the NordVPN servers because they would get blocked by Netflix.

Hi. Sorry for my english(.
I bought r7800 bricks, when turned on, the power esata starts to flash alternately. If you do a reset, it normally loads, distributes wifi, enters the interface, gives you a reflash. But this is all just before the restart, then again flashes diodes. Lan ports do not work (do not blink even when the cable is connected and when reset router, dont pings 192.168.1.1).Tftp is not possible to flash without lan ports. When connecting usb-uart (serial) putty displays...

Got my first email from ASUS in years of use

ASUS is releasing a firmware update for selected routers. Our most recent firmware update contains enhanced security protections against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure of data, malware, phishing and DDoS attacks.

I assume an rmerlin version will follow in the not too distant future

Pce-86ac or 88ac adapter

So my room mate has cox gigablast, and with it the Technicolor CMG4141 modem. If I read it right it has built in 3x3 mimo antennas.

The modem is stationed at the opposite end of the house, and is a good 50ft from my PC.

Would I see any extra benefit with the 88ac adapter? I understand it's up to 2100mbps but could it theoretically be seen between the adapter and the modem? Or should I save $20 and go with the 86ac and match the 3x3 mimo antennas?

Client List Network Map

Hello,

I have an RP-AC56 extender connected to an AC-3100 router. I'm currently running the latest firmware 384.11_2.

The Client List Network Map used to show how many devices were connecting thru the RP-AC56 by showing a number in the upper right corner of the RP-AC56's icon when viewing the client list currently connected. Since the upgrade it has not done this.

Any way to get that back?

Thanks

Just signed up to ask questions, as this forum has been a fantastic resource so far. I am looking for a solution that would meet my objectives below without spending too much money.

First, some background and objectives. I live in China and have a 1000mb down / 100mb up connection from China Telecom. The ISP has provided an all in one modem/router box. I also bought a Asus RT-88U and flashed it with Merlin. As a side note, I think the router might have a faulty 5G radio (can see the 5G...

Any simple way to have a VPN client not stop trying to connect?

$

I run a pair of AC88U with 384.10 that maintain a "permanent" VPN connection between their respective LANs using OpenVPN in the router. For the most part this work great. However, on occasion if one of the respective ISPs has a somewhat prolonged outage (over an hour?) as one of mine did last night, the client side of the VPN gives up trying to reconnect. This requires then manual intervention to turn the client back on. Is there some setting I haven't found or other easy trick that...
