R7000 firmware questions

So does the R7000 need to be in router mode in order to find firmware updates? My bridged R7000 currently has V1.0.4.30_1.1.67, but isn't able to find new firmware. If not, have there been multiple firmware versions removed from availability? My broadcasting R7000 has V1.0.5.48_1.1.79 and I keep keeping the notification that a new version is available, but nothing is ever found.
