KDE openvpn settings to log into router

I switched over to Linux with KDE from windows 8 on my laptop, I can't seem to get the opvn file generated from the router to work. The opvn file worked with OpenVPN GUI for windows, but on the KDE network manager-->file --> import vpn connection, it always fails to connect. Anybody have suggestions? I spent half a day on it so far. I won't be home for 3-4 weeks, I don't feel like going back to windows.
